What Is a Normal Sleep Schedule for a 13-Month-Old?
At 13 months, babies are often in a transition phase, which is why sleep can feel unpredictable.
Here’s a general guideline:
- Total sleep: 12–14 hours in 24 hours
- Naps: 1–2 naps a day
- Wake windows: Around 3–5 hours
- Typical bedtime: Between 7:00 – 8:30 PM
Some babies:
- Are transitioning from 2 naps to 1
- Take shorter or inconsistent naps
- Become more active (which affects sleep)
If your baby’s schedule doesn’t look “perfect,” that’s completely normal.
A Realistic 13-Month-Old Sleep Schedule (Working Mum Routine)
This is not a “perfect schedule,” but a real example of what our day looks like. I’m sharing it because sometimes real routines are more helpful than strict guidelines.
As a working mum, I’ve found that a flexible rhythm works better for us than a rigid schedule.
Morning Wake-Up
- 7:30 – 8:00 AM (most days)
Some days he wakes closer to 9:00 AM, and the rest of the day shifts slightly.
Morning Routine + First Wake Window
- Breakfast
- Playtime at home
Breakfast is usually something simple like dosa or paratha, and he’s right there with us—sitting in his highchair (this is the one we use and love) in the kitchen while we cook.
He actually enjoys playing with spoons & cups and being around us while we cook.
After that, we move to the hall for playtime. Lately, he’s been loving his ball pit—throwing balls everywhere, crawling around, and just making a mess in the happiest way possible (we have a similar one to this).
Nap 1
- Around 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
- If he wakes later, this nap moves closer to 12:00 PM
Since I’m currently working from home, this is also when I try to fit in my exercise or just take a breather.
Midday Routine
- Playtime
- Lunch around 2:00 PM
Once he wakes up, it’s usually bath time.
Most days, I give him a quick oil massage before his first nap, so post-nap bath just fits naturally into our routine.
Bath time is more like playtime for him—he’s my little Nemo (fish) and absolutely loves water.
- We usually fill the bathtub and let him sit and play
- Sometimes I use a small rubber baby pool (like this), which he loves just as much
- He plays with his toys, splashing around happily
Because of this, baths are rarely quick—they’re part of his play and sensory time too.
After bath time, he’s usually quite hungry, so it’s time for lunch (around 2:00 PM).
Depending on how the day goes:
- If he wakes up late → lunch comes first, then bath
- Otherwise → bath first, then food
Like most toddlers, lunch can get messy—but that’s part of the routine now.
Afternoon + Outdoor Time
- Outdoor/garden time between 3:00 – 4:00 PM
After lunch, depending on the weather (it gets quite hot here in Dubai), we either:
- Go to the common garden, where he sometimes meets other kids
- Or stay indoors for play
Indoor play usually means:
- Crawling all over the house
- Following the dogs around
- Trying to grab their toys (especially their Kongs… which I constantly have to rescue 😅)
Snack + Wind Down
- Snack between 4:30 – 5:00 PM
He enjoys:
- Baby biscuits
- Banana
- Sometimes a muffin I’ve made
(It’s a mix of easy + homemade snacks depending on the day)
Nap 2 (Evening Nap)
- Around 5:00 – 7:00 PM
This might look different from most schedules, but it works well for us:
- He gets enough rest
- I also get a chance to recharge in the evening
Bedtime (Our Routine)
- Around 9:30 – 10:00 PM
This is later than what’s usually recommended (most schedules suggest 7–8:30 PM).
However, this works for our family for a few reasons:
- I’m a working mum, so evenings are our main time together
- A slightly later schedule helps align better with my routine
- It also reduces the amount of time my family needs to manage him while I’m at work
That said, he still wakes up with me most mornings.
This is just one variation—not a rule—and it may not work for every family.

Why This Schedule Looks Different
If you’ve seen other sleep schedules online, this one may feel different:
- Later bedtime
- Evening nap
- More flexibility
That’s because:
- It’s built around real life, not an ideal routine
- It adjusts based on our day
- It fits a working mum lifestyle
Think of this as a rhythm, not a fixed schedule.
Common 13-Month Sleep Challenges
If your baby’s sleep feels inconsistent, you’re not alone.
Transitioning From 2 Naps to 1
Some days your baby may:
- Take 2 naps
- Refuse one
- Or switch between both
Late Wake-Ups Affect the Whole Day
A later wake-up shifts:
- Nap timings
- Bedtime
Developmental Changes
At this age, babies are:
- Learning to walk
- More aware of surroundings
- Sometimes more clingy
- Teething
All of this can impact sleep.
How to Adjust Your 13-Month-Old’s Sleep Schedule
Instead of aiming for perfection, focus on flexibility.
Follow Your Baby’s Cues
Watch for tiredness rather than relying only on the clock
Adjust Based on Wake Time
If your baby wakes later:
- Shift naps forward
- Move bedtime slightly
Focus on Total Sleep
What matters most is:
- Overall rest across the day
- Not exact timings
Build a Routine That Fits Your Life
Your baby’s schedule should work with:
- Your work routine
- Your support system
- Your daily flow
What About Weekends?
Weekends are more relaxed for us.
- Wake-up times vary
- Naps shift based on plans
- We spend more time outdoors
I don’t follow the weekday routine strictly—just the general flow.
Final Thoughts
A 13-month-old sleep schedule doesn’t need to be perfect to work.
If your routine feels flexible or different from what you see online, that’s completely okay.
What matters most is finding a rhythm that works for your baby and your family. And that can look different for everyone.
